The Irish Postbox
Stephen Ferguson

Introduced to Ireland by the novelist, Anthony Trollope, the post box has been a silent and reliable servant of the public for over one hundred and fifty years now. From tentative and uncertain beginnings, it has become much more than a mere “letter receiver”, emerging as a cherished icon of functional design and a symbol of State authority, a point so well
appreciated by the men who changed its colour from red to green. Drawing on Post Office and other archive material the author, who is Assistant Secretary of An Post, charts the course of this transformation and assesses what the future may hold for that silent servant and symbol of the State that is the Irish post box.

Sean Keating: In Focus
Dr Éimear O'Connor

This elegantly produced 64-page catalogue has been published to accompany the exhibition Sean Keating: In Focus at the Hunt Museum, Limerick. Written by Dr Éimear O'Connor the catalogue examines many of the most popular and several of the more obscure aspects of the artist’s career from 1907 to 1977 using iconic images alongside unfamiliar and previously unknown paintings and drawings.
Included in the exhibition and catalogue are works that have never before been exhibited in public. Also included are a biographical and working career timeline as well as a bibliography and suggested reading list.
"The primary aim of 'Keating in Focus' is to begin the process of re-appraising the artist's career and working methods in the light of current research by the author. The tantalising perspectives into previously unknown images and drawings, alongside the exhibition of ephemeral objects relating to Keating, will offer scholars and the public alike the opportunity to review and reconsider the artist in terms of his entire career rather than the specific, albeit significant, better known moments" - Dr Éimear O'Connor

The Irish Georgian Society–A Celebration
Robert O'Byrne
(Finalist for 2008 Irish Print Awards)
Produced to celebrate the first fifty years of the Irish Georgian Society, this sumptuously illustrated volume recounts the Society’s beginnings in 1958 and the success it has since achieved through its dedication to the preservation of Ireland’s historic buildings. Founded by the Hon. Desmond Guinness and his wife, the late Mariga, the Irish Georgian Society was set up to campaign against the destruction of Ireland’s Georgian heritage, houses and streetscapes, and to promote what was then an under-appreciated aspect of Ireland’s architectural history and its cultural identity.
"...undoubtedly the most important book dealing with the conservation of the built heritage that has been published in Ireland." - Desmond FitzGerald, Knight of Glin.
This meticulously researched book, with its wealth of archival imagery and colour photographs, is an important record of the Society’s dramatic history and achievements, and a testimonial to a rich past that was so nearly lost.
The book includes notes, a bibliography, an index and there are several appendices.
